Homemade Recipes for Cat and Cat Food

Recipes for cat and cat food with your own hands

Ready-made cat food is easy to buy at any pet store today. They are convenient to use if the owner is at work all day and sometimes doesn't even have time to cook, and you can leave dry croquettes in the trough for the whole day without fear that the food will spoil. However, many pet owners prefer to convert their pets from industrially prepared food to a natural diet.

Sometimes the reason for this is the need to do so when finished food is not recommended for health reasons. And it is not uncommon for the owner or host to transfer their cat to a food prepared with their own hands, knowing that it is closer to the natural cat diet than canned food. Cooking is also a fascinating activity. You need to explore the needs of your cat's body and find and try interesting cat dishes to prepare.

The first thing you need to know is what foods and how much should be included in a cat menu so that it is complete and balanced with the right ingredients for your cat's body. You should also learn how to prepare pet food for your cat: what can be added raw and what must be heat treated.

Food composition for cats

A cat is a predatory mammal of the cat family. Like all predators, it mainly eats meat. Meat products should account for up to 80% of a cat's daily diet, 10% of which can be in the form of by-products. Meat can be used by anyone, only pork in limited quantities - it is heavier to digest and contains a lot of fat.

The remaining 20% of a cat's diet should consist of vegetables, cereals, potatoes, pulses, herbs and eggs (2-3 per week, no more). Cabbages (Brussels, broccoli, cauliflower), carrots, spinach, celery, pumpkin, courgettes can be given to cats from vegetables. What your cat prefers should be included in the menu. Onions and garlic shouldn't be given to cats - these products are toxic to cats. Homemade food should contain enough vitamins and minerals, so it is advisable to add vitamin and mineral jelly or cat tablets recommended by your vet.

It can be difficult for cats to immediately switch from canned food to a natural food diet, so it's a good idea to start by giving them wet tinned food, which is closer to home food in terms of appearance and taste. If you have other animals in your home (such as a dog) you'll need to prepare your cat food separately as the composition of the food is different: your cat needs much more protein. There are quite a few simple recipes for cat food and at least some of these will make your pet taste good.
