The Atlas Shepherd ( Aidi )

The Atlas Shepherd is a very old breed from the mountains and plateaus of North Africa. It is mainly found in the Atlas of Morocco. It's not for herding. It has always accompanied nomadic mountain populations to ensure its care and protection. If it watches over their troops and deters any attempt at attack by predators, it does not lead them. The race of Berger of the Atlas was definitively recognized by the International Dog Federation on June 13, 1963.

Behavior with others

The Atlas Shepherd is a loyal, faithful dog, who knows how to show his affection to his master and his family. He is much more suspicious of strangers. His instinct to guard and protect is, in fact, very developed. He faces the danger with great courage, which he strives to analyze thanks to his observant and attentive character.

Education

As the Atlas Shepherd is a rather independent dog with a strong personality, he must be trained firmly and fairly from an early age. By imposing himself as the pack leader in his eyes, while being gentle towards him, he ensures the company of a balanced, versatile and pleasant dog.

Living conditions

The Atlas Shepherd is not really made for apartment living. It can adapt to an urban lifestyle if it is frequently walked and regularly invited to spend time in the wilderness. A house with a fenced garden would be perfect for him.

Health

The Atlas Shepherd is a hardy, resistant and healthy dog. Its coat gives it very good protection against the cold and heat that characterize its original mountain regions. The breed does not have a predisposition to any congenital disease.
